Our electives classes met for the final time on Monday. Our drawing class had time to finish up their journal. They have been drawing their experiences daily throughout the trip. We were very impressed with the results. We have some amazing talent among us! On Monday night we went to the beach to have a picnic together and enjoy sunset. The beaches of Nice have been a favorite gathering spot for our students for the past few weeks. There is a lot to do other than just swim. We have caught our students reading, listening to music, playing cards, playing volleyball and of course enjoying ice cream in la Baie des Anges. For our final dinner we went to Di Piu near old town and had a mediterranean style dinner together. They specialize in local seafood and pasta dishes and have an amazing selection of fish from the area.

To kick off our weekend we spent an afternoon in the Parc Phoenix. We got to see some animals and lots of really cool plants. On Saturday, we took a bus to Saint Tropez. We did some shopping and spent some time on the beach. They weather in the morning was amazing but a storm rolled in and we went back to Nice. To finish our last weekend on the Côte d'Azur we travelled to Villefranche to do some snorkeling.
We toured la Rade and saw lots of fish and sea urchins. We've had a busy week avoiding the heatwave enjoying our finals days with some of our departing friends. We travelled to Saint Laurent du Var to cool down at an aquapark in the sea. We burned some calories and got to show off our climbing skills. In the evening we went to a restaurant to celebrate our final evening with 10 of our students. We danced a bit then sang happy birthday to our French teacher Alicia.
This week for our electives courses our Culture and Conversation class took a bus to Musée Matisse. There they got to see the evolution of Henri Matisse's style over the course of his life. The Art and Photography courses travelled to Beaulieu sur Mer and tour la Villa Kerylos. There they explored the Greek villa and its gardens while learning about the basics of portraits.
Antibes and Saint-Paul-de-Vence!Today we took a quick ride up to Saint Paul de Vence, a fortified medieval village just outside of Nice. There students explored La Fondation Maeght and then walked up into the old town to have some time to explore on their own. Our electives classes met on Friday afternoon. The Culture and Conversation students went to MAMAC, Nice's modern art museum right next to the Residence. Our drawing course caught up on their sketches. They are creating a sketch book to remember their daily adventures. Our photography students went to Le Musée de la Photo in Cours Saleya. We went back to the bowling alley with our new students and tried to get more strikes. It didn't work out so well for most of us. Some of us also played pool for a few hours. On Saturday we went to Antibes where we visited the morning market and then we went to the Musée Picasso to see some of his most famous works. In the evening we went to the promenade of Cagnes sur Mer to have dinner and watch the fireworks. This morning we had a quick brunch and are on our way to Saint Paul de Vence to spend the day exploring la Fondation Maeght and the medieval fortified city. Special thanks to all the students who contributed photos to today's blog! Merci les Socca!
For our electives classes this week, our art and photography courses joined forces with the students from our Saint Laurent du Var program. We met up to Cimiez, a district on the north-west side of town. There we explored the ancient roman ruins as well as the meditation garden next to the Franciscan monastery. We also welcomed 11 new friends to the program. We had a pasta buffet for dinner and also spent sometime in a park next to the residence getting to know one another. We also took a bit of time in the evening to introduce our new students to the program, talk about the rules of the program and to show them around their new neighborhood.
Departures and Arrivals.Today after our French classes we went back to Beaulieu-sur-Mer, to try parasailing again. We spent some time on the beach, cooled off in the sea. In the evening we had to say goodbye to some of our friends. So we rented out a private karaoke bar and sang and danced the night away.
