We had a wonderful weekend of travel and celebration. On Saturday we went to San Rémo to visit the quaint Italian town and swim a bit. After our Italian getaway we took a bus back to Nice to catch the fireworks on La Promenade. On Sunday we took a train to Cannes. Some of us chose to spend the day wandering around and doing some shopping. Another group chose to take a boat to les Îles des Lérins. There we hiked a bit and relaxed under the cypress trees. We stayed for the fireworks in Cannes and made it back to Nice pretty late. To commemorate the Bastille day attack of 2016 Nice shines 86 lights into the sky.

Today after our all-you-can eat Asian buffet lunch we took a couple of trains to Mandelieu La Napoule. There we got a guided tour of the Château de la Napoule and then spent some time wandering the gardens and hanging out on the beach.
It's hard to believe we've already been here for a week! It has gone by so fast. Today we had French classes visit Cours Saleya where they talked with some local merchants about their work in the market. In the afternoon for our electives classes, the conversation class did a scavenger hunt near place Garibaldi and the art and photo classes went up to Mont Alban to get a different view of Nice and the surrounding villages. After dinner we went the Acropolis to do some bowling. Scores ranged from 46 to 130. Some of us preferred getting strikes and some of us were more prone to gutter balls. Bravo to Mia the champion of bowling!
A storm rolled in to Nice this morning complete with thunder and lightening so we changed our plans a bit. After our morning classes we had lunch and then went to the movies. We watched Spiderman and Toy Story 4. After the movies we had a crêpe party and somehow went through 2 kilos of Nutella! After our crêpe party we took a walk to the beach and played a some volleyball. We didn't win but our team has a plan and think we'll have all the kinks worked out by tomorrow.
Photo cred: Alejandra On Sunday, we left Nice, and took the upper corniche all the way to Monaco. Some of the students toured the Musée Océanographique while others decided to go to the Prince's palace for a quick tour and to see the changing of the guard. We had some time to enjoy a lunch and walk around Monaco a bit. Everyone was too young. On our way back to Nice we toured the Fragonard perfume factory in Eze. We learned a lot about how many of the aromatic ingredients of the region are used Photo cred: Catherine In the Castel des deux Rois park the culture class played some icebreakers and the photography class worked on shutter speed.
My First Taste of Nice...
Today we got up early to climb up la colline and visit the Château de Nice. We did a lot more than just take in the views of the old port and the surrounding mountains. We began by meeting our French teachers for the month and taking a quick placement test. All of the teachers remarked that our students have an impressive level of French this year! We are really excited to help everyone grow and learn even more French! We also had a quick orientation and then had some free time to explore the park. We are on our way now to take a quick stroll through old town and along la Prom. Tomorrow we are off to Saint Jean Cap Ferrat to spend some time in the sea.
